Wedding Favor tell your guest, friends and family, how much you appreciate their presence on the special day. Some couples do not give enough consideration to their wedding favors and this is quite unfortunate because the wedding favor is the one part of the wedding which your guests will take home as a reminder of your wedding.
Favors have been around for hundreds of years; in fact, centuries ago, aristocrats in Europe, especially those in Italy and France, would provide their wedding guests home with a small gift, which was called a bonbonniere. Basically this was a small box that was made out of metal, porcelain, precious stones, of even crystal. There were various confections made of sugar inside of the boxes that the guests could enjoy after they had gone home.
SOME TYPICAL FAVORS FROM PUGLIA TRADITION
Pumi and pine cones
The name comes from the dialect pumo ostunese “Pumo de fiurè” which means “flower bud”. It represents a stylized bud, which is given as a sign of good omen on the occasion of any important event. In the past, pumas adorned the corners of the balconies of the mansions in Apulia.
Pitchers and glasses
Classic containers of wine or water that may also be used as beautiful ornaments.
Whistles home made
The famous “Rutigliano whistles” are artifacts of clay hand painted depicting famous people and scenes of everyday life: the rooster mascot to the classic figure of the policeman, from St. Nicholas to the President of the Republic Giorgio Napolitano, Toto from the friar.
The whistle oldest found dating back to the Middle Ages and depicts a rooster. However, the art of reproducing ceramic ware and terracotta is very old.
Since weddings used to be seen as a lucky time, couples felt that they were passing on good luck to the guests at their wedding when they presented them with a bonbonniere.
