We can arrange a valid civil marriage, a religious wedding, a symbolic ceremony or a simple blessing. The local authorities require documents for all legal weddings. The documentation necessary varies according to the nationality of the bride and groom and the type of ceremony requested.
In Italy, Civil weddings must be necessary performed in a Town Hall. Most Town Halls are located in beautiful historical buildings, in unique villas or grand palaces owned by the local government of the area. Usually the civil wedding lasts from 20 to 30 minutes and it is performed by the Mayor or a Civil Registrar. The ceremony is conducted in Italian and translated to you in English by one of The Italian Wedding Event’s interpreters.(If Required).Depending on your wedding destination (every Municipality has different requirements) you are required to sign a Declaration of Intent to Marry (usually 2 days prior the wedding). In case of a divorce woman or widow the Italian law does not allow to re-marry unless 300 days have elapsed from the date of the Decree Absolute or decease of the previous spouse. The documents mentioned above have to be supplied, if applicable
Catholic wedding ceremonies are legally recognized in Italy but can only be performed in a church. The Catholic Church, however, will not perform ceremonies outside of the church itself. This means no gardens, no villas (unless the villa has its own consecrated chapel, no hilltops, etc. The churches in Italy are usually very beautiful and historical and are wonderful and unique locations for weddings. Most churches charge a fee: a donation which can be discussed with the priest.
A Symbolic wedding is a valid alternative to avoid civil and religious documents. It is not legally binding and no paperwork is required. Symbolic ceremonies in Italy can take place wherever you desire: on a sea-view terrace, on the beach, in a garden, in a vineyard, in a Trullo stone house, in a “Gozzo” special ship here in Puglia, or any other special place which has a special meaning for you.
